The Edmonton Transit System added a $675 million, 7.8 km LRT extension to in the southern portion of the metro area. PNR RailWorks performed both track construction and signal work on the project.
PNR RailWorks constructed 7.8 km of double track line comprised of both ballasted and direction fixation track. The line extends through the southern portion of Edmonton and features track at grade, through tunnels and overpasses. Construction includes 19 at-grade road crossings, pedestrian crossings and turnouts.
One of the most challenging aspects of the project was coordinating work and logistics adjoining one of the busiest streets on the south side of Edmonton.
Edmonton’s LRT weekday ridership was expected to double to 100,000 with completion of the extension.
